Rachael's Story

“The state of my thoughts and feelings when facing my abortion pain was intense shame because I knew I ended the life of my children. I felt like I didn’t ever deserve – ever, ever deserve – any happiness or joy. I just couldn’t forgive myself and didn’t want to forgive myself. My time at the post-abortion Bible study, it was a safe place to grieve for my children. I was able to receive God’s forgiveness for my abortions. That started, you know, my healing journey and it also started my journey of forgiving myself.”

— Rachael

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ -Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV). Six months ago I thought those words were not for me – six months ago I was consumed with guilt and shame and trying desperately to find peace. The abortion I had 22 years ago still ravaged my soul. I prayed for the Lord’s help. And He rescued me! Invariably, He led me to Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services and the post-abortion Bible study. The classes, through scripture and fellowship with others who also experienced abortion, and most importantly through prayer, changed my life in ways I never thought were possible. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!”

“Abortion is____________________________.

How would you finish this sentence? A woman’s choice? Life changing? Final? Sin? Death? Selfish? Murder? Unforgettable? Crippling? Heartbreaking? I have heard women express all of these conclusions. But the word that fills me with hope for grieving post-abortion women is, “Abortion is forgivable!” In Psalm 118:5, the psalmist declares, “In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and He answered by setting me free” (NIV). Abortion IS forgivable. God forgave me. He wants to forgive you too. Reach out for help today. We are here for you.”
